The Etna Volunteer Fire Department provides emergency services to the Borough residents as well as providing mutual aid services to our surrounding communities of Aspinwall Borough, Hampton Township, Millvale Borough, O'Hara Township, Reserve Township, Ross Township, Shaler Township, and Sharpsburg Borough.
Your emergency services in the Borough of Etna are not provided by paid firefighters. They are provided by 100% DEDICATED VOLUNTEERS who carry pagers, that when activated, interrupt a work day, family time, a warm meal, or even sleep. These volunteers put their lives on hold, and on the line, at a moment's notice to help those in need.
Our time and services are free, our equipment and training are not. We depend on your generous contributions to keep our facilities operating and our trucks in service 24 hours a day, seven days a week-

Our mission is to provide a vibrant community-based emergency medical service (EMS) where compassionate and high-quality care is provided for all who live, work, or visit our communities of Etna, Hampton, and Shaler. We do this by attracting and retaining the highest quality staff, and by always striving for a positive work environment, fair compensation, great benefits, and a continual learning environment.
Shaler Hampton EMS operates 5 Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulances which are crewed by a combination of career and volunteer staff, all of who are certified by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT), Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians (AEMT) or Paramedics (EMT-P) . All clinical staff operate using state protocols and operate under the guidance of Dr. Chuck Feronti, DO, an Emergency Medicine Physician with Allegheny Health Network Prehospital Care Services, who serves as our EMS Medical Director.
Shaler Hampton EMS is involved in many emergency medical alliances including: North East Ambulance Alliance (NEAA), Allegheny County EMS, EMS West, Pennsylvania Ambulance Association (PAA), and the American Ambulance Association (AAA).
